A small box came in the mail today. It was from my dear friend Carrie that I have known since our Parker House days in the late 90's on Camp Pendleton. The box contained a movie....a movie she had borrowed waaaaaaaaay back when were both on Okinawa! I laughed because this had to be atleast over 6 years ago! Life in the military! ❤️
Just a peak into my life as i travel the world, try new things, and enjoy this incredible journey called life!

Updated Shell Box
I updated our shell box from when the Adolpho's were visiting. I love my shell box. I can pick up any shell and there is a memory written on it....the latest one with the Adolpho's at the Dog Beach on Camp Lejeune. It was a super fun day! The kids had a blast and so did the dog!!! I was thinking back on all the fun my kids have had with Adolpho kids and all the places we've been and it is pretty funny for us to have only been stationed on an itty bitty island in the middle of the Pacific we have been to a LOT of places together!
Our kids have been on three islands together:
*Okinawa
*Guam
*Hawaii
They have been in
*North Carolina
*Maryland
*Delaware
*New Jersey
*New York
and Vicki in Virginia with them when she went to Busch Gardens and rode roller coasters!
They have played together in the Pacific & Atlantic oceans and The East China Sea
AND!!! We were even all together on a Space A flight, so they have flown together on a giant C-5!!! I wonder how many childhood friends can match up with these Military Brats!!!
Yep, these Military Brats have had an awesome childhood and now teen years together on fun adventures!

See Ya Later Kelli, AGAIN!!!
Kelli Kirwan and i have been friends since the early Spring of 1998. We met while our husbands were stationed on Camp Pendleton and we both lived in Base Housing and were in the same ward for church. Kelli was the nursery leader and Vicki was in nursery along with Kelli's daughter Rebekah who was the same age as Vicki. Those two became quick friends and probably the reason why were never stationed at the same duty station again. We used to joke about those toddlers stealing a helicopter if they were ever on the same base as teenagers! We have had a LOT of fun and crazy times together. Seen lots of sadness together to with the many memorial services we attended for our Marines killed in training accidents. We have gone in different directions over the last 16 years but only because of our husbands duty stations. We would totally CHOOSE to live next door to each other if the Marine Corps would ever make that happen! Anyways.....from 1998-2014 we have PCS'd around the Marine Corps duty stations and the Kirwans hit an Army Post along the way. We finally ended up in the same state in 2009! Now Kelli is doing her last official PCS move as her husband, Charles, is now in the ranks of the Retired Marines. I went and hung out with her/helped her on her last day of packing out while the movers loaded the truck one last time from a military duty station. It just doesn't seem possible that we are at this point in our lives! When i met her my husband was just barely a Corporal....it has been a fun and crazy along with some tears 16 years of Marine Wife friendship. She is off to Texas in the morning, that is home for her. I won't be surprised if we end up close together again when my Marine joins the retired ranks. Texas is a state we are looking at if the Democrats don't find a way to plant toooooo many blue voters there! I see it happening with all their constant legislation is gaining the Mexican vote, now they just have to figure out a way to get those numbers there to out vote the Texas people. When that happens, which i am afraid it might, The Dude In Cammies and i will have to scratch off another retirement wish location off our list. The blue seems pretty hellbent on taking all the warm locations of our country!!! Maybe i will be talking Kelli into joining me in Wyoming, Oklahoma, or the Dakotas! I sure hope not! I hate the cold!!!
This is Luke. He is Jasper Jr. The only child of Jasper that we know location of. We know some of his pups were given to Wounded Warrior, but Luke is the only one we have kept in contact with. He is JUST like his Daddy. We always joke and do the Darth Vader voice around Luke of "Luke, I am your father". It never gets old. gonna miss this cute, wild, fat, spaz of a dog!!! He wouldn't look up because he had a ball in his mouth and he thought i was going to take it!!!
Desperate Tutu
Poor Red a horrible Hot Spot getting out of control on his back from we think it was when he got his shaved hair cut for Texas and he got nicked. He of course was making it worse!!! We were trapped at the house with the packers but there were still scissors and some paper plates on the counter! In desperation a Tutu was created to keep him from scratching until later that night when we could zip to Walmart and get him a dog shirt to wear! Red was NOT happy about his tutu!!!! But it kept him from making his Hot Spot HOTTER!!!
Jasper Jr AKA Luke Kirwan
Nope, this is NOT Jasper! It only looks like Jasper because it is Jasper's son, Luke! I had to say goodbye to him as his family is moving to Texas! He is now the dog of a retired Marine and they are going home to the Lone Star State! Luke is like Jasper and it was hard for him to hold still while out in the front yard. But chewing on his ball got me a quick picture before he began tossing the ball like his Daddy! Gonna miss this guy and his human family!!!

Beach Day With Oki Peeps!
You know how there are some people that you just mesh with...you meet and everyone just gets along and it is just fun and no trying to impress or anything. Just being yourself and having a good time? That was the Adolpho's who lived across from us when we lived on the island of Okinawa. They are in most of our pictures and almost all of our memories. My kids grew up with Adolpho kids for 5 years. They saw them daily except for when one of us were off the island, and somehow we even managed to run into each other when we were off the island and have spend time together on two other islands while hopping back to our home island of Okinawa! we were on Hawaii and Guam together and the kids have flown in a C-5 together! How many neighborhood kids have those kind of memories together?!!! It was literally like we had never been apart!
Abby their deaf dog learned how to swim today....it was so cute to watch her as she figured out what to do! In the end she figured it out and i think she even liked it! Not enough to go charging into the ocean but enough that i think she thought it was a fun thing to check off her on her dogie bucket list!
Vicki thought she was just going to sit and get some sun....nope, Ajaye picked her up and threw her in the water! No special treatment for being a girl, she has always been like a sister/cousin to him so it was full fledged pick up and throw in! Later he threw plenty of wet sand on her. Definitely just like old times!
Yep, these kids haven't missed a beat! They had a blast playing in the waves, burying Byron in the sand, throwing each other in the water.....it was like they had been playing with each other on the beaches their whole lives and hadn't taken a 6 year hiatus due to the military sending their Dads to different duty stations!

Deployed Souses Ball 2013
Tonight was the Deployed
Spouses Ball. AND!!! It is The Dude in Cammies BIRTHDAY!!! This was my first one to
ever go to. I have seen lots of posts
from friends who have gone to these and seen many fun pictures but had never
had the opportunity to attend one as The Dude in Cammies has either left right
after one or arrived home before one or when he was an augment the Battalion
always made sure to invite the Wives of their deployed Marines and since they
bought the tickets and offered transportation and child care I didn’t say no,
so I have never had the opportunity to go until this year! My friend Kim who
lives down the road from me asked if I was going. I was originally not planning on it as The Dude
in Cammies arrival was going to be somewhere in that window and so I wasn’t
sure if I should risk buying a ticket and that ends up being the night he comes
home or he comes home the day before and I leave him his first night home or
something like that! Amy definitely wanted to go. Her Marine is in Afghanistan
and is retiring this summer. She has yet
to go to one of these either and she wanted to go as this was her last
chance. I told her I would buy a ticket
and go as long as I wasn’t picking up my guy during the Ball! Ha! I figured
this way I could check this off my Marine Wife Bucket List and go with a fun
friend!!! We had a total blast! The decorations were sooo fun! I was going to
sit on one of the sand bags and right when I was sitting I realized they weren’t
filled with sand but with air! That was
close!!! I almost fell but thank goodness my brain began thinking ‘sand’ bags
would be really heavy to bring in in this quantity!!! Caught myself just in
time! Now, that would have been a
classic Julia Moment if I hadn’t had that sudden brain power happen!!! The food
was delicious, the desserts were every girls dream, and the speakers were hilarious
and know the Marine Wife Life!!! It was a fantabulous evening with some super
fun wives!

Sometimes....

Sometimes life deals the cards just right and you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the precise moment in time and have the most amazing opportunity to share this fantastic thing called life with the bestest of people! We have had that here on Okinawa! Kat and Matt next door and Leilani and Angus across the way have been our neighbors since we moved into this little concrete house on Camp Foster on the itty bitty island of Okinawa! I still remember Kat coming over on our very first day and giving us a plate of brownies and introducing all the kids on the street. My munchkins immediately scattered with the neighborhood children that were their age and I went back inside to finish unpacking. Not having the slightest idea that Kat was going to become a friend that will always be held dear to my heart. Vicki instantly began playing with her daughter Alex and Jorden hit it off with Cody. Ty and Ryan, 2 and 3, began to play with the giant group of little boys and a few little girls their age. Later that day I came home and found a note taped to my door that the neighborhood was going to be grilling together for Labor Day and to join them for some fun. My only thought at that moment was that these people were frickin insane! It was like a few hundred degrees outside with humidity that saturated you in a heartbeat! Why would you grill when you could just throw your meat out on the pavement and watch it cook? But, needless to say, we went out in the heat and sat drenched in our sweat and the friendships were formed that would never unravel, no matter where our future duty stations would send us! That has been the last 5 years of our life on this island! Spending it with the most incredible of people. Our kids have grown up together, potty trained together and began school together. Our husbands have deployed together, gone to war together, and thru it all we have been one big family. Ohana it is! Always there for each other, thru the good and the bad. Laughing when we have wanted to cry and crying because we have laughed so hard! Securing our houses when the typhoons have approached, the Dad’s on island making sure the houses with deployed Dad’s were set and ready. Hanging out during lockdowns and playing games till we could not keep our eyes open. Santa’s visits on Christmas Eve, Thanksgivings, trick or treating, roasting marshmallows and sitting by a fire, even if it meant with umbrellas! Angus practicing his aim with his paint ball guns at our front door, bringing out the left over’s and having a buffet so nobody had to cook that night……….the list goes on of all the fun times shared! We have lived in the kind of neighborhood where you can take your trash out in the morning and 5 hours later realize you need to go inside and figure out what to make for dinner. There is always someone sitting outside and a chair waiting for you to join them. Every year we have endured the sadness of the moving trucks pulling in to pack out our dear neighbors as they head out to new horizons. Now, the last two families from our original group are leaving and I am so very grateful for the treasured memories and saddened by the thought of not seeing you each day! Kat, I couldn’t have asked for a better family to share walls with! You were my very first friend on Oki! You are the wise one and I will miss all of our chats in your front yard and watching the clouds on your trampoline to the tunes of my iPod! Tank has made us forever family! Leilani, you have been the twin I never had! Thanks for being the brave one and enduring my screams during the late night scary movies and letting me grab your arm and making you tell me when I could open my eyes! It was the best swimming laps everyday while we traded watching each other’s kids! I think we are the only ones to sneak into the pool during lockdown in a typhoon and take pictures of each other jumping off the diving boards as we flew in the wind! I can’t imagine going to the beach this summer without you and the rest of your crew! I’ll miss not seeing you plopped on my couch or vice versa hanging out on yours! Who is going to help me move my furniture around?! I know this is not good bye; it is just merely a switch in our locations. With tears running down my face and a shaky smile I bid you all farewell and know that our paths will cross again. We have truly been blessed to live among you all!!! And as the song goes…. “I will remember you……” Now, I guess I will just catch up on everything that I have put off over the last 5 years!!!
