Trying Hard To Bowl

No work for Ed or i and no school for the boys. We wanted to something but none of us felt like driving 2 plus hours to go do something.....soooooo we decided to go bowling on base.  I went on line and double checked the hours. It said it opened at 10 am. We arrived at 11 am and there was a sign on the door that it would open at 1 and an apology for any inconvenience.....so typical of this duty station. I've enjoyed my time here but really looking forward to living on a REAL Marine base again and having things to do close by and not having to drive HOURS to go do something!!! We decided to go check the bowling alley out in town. It didn't open until 4 pm!!!!  Oh my gosh!!! like seriously it's just eat or watch a movie in this town!!! Drives me crazy!!!  It's super windy today so hiking, shooting, and riding horses is out, so literally leaves eating, watching a movie, or go bowling......ugh!!!!! So we killed some time running a few errands and went bowling later on base when it opened. As you can tell by the score we don't bowl often!!!  We are more of an outdoor family but on these crazy windy days we are a bit limited on things to do if we don't want to sit at the house!!!

FedEx Arrived With Christmas Trees

Santa came to our middle of nowhere neighborhood in a FedEx truck full of Christmas Trees today!

Gas Shut Off!

Tonight is the Single Marine Thanksgiving Dinner. All the spouses here on base cook a feast for all the single Marines that live in the barracks. Of course there happens to be a gas leak and the gas is turned off for the day. All our ovens are gas!!! The Dude In Cammies found ovens around base for us to use. My two turkeys were ordered to the barracks kitchen that has two ovens. So, I headed over there....

We arrive to discover an awesome facility!!! Ty, Ryan, and Taylor were put on Turkey Duty and stayed at the barracks while they cooked. I went and filled up a picnic basket of drinks and food for them. I think it's safe to say they will survive hardship duty!

I Couldn't Place The Smell...

While I was doing the dishes tonight I smelled a smell....it was a familiar smell but I couldn't quite place it....after about an hour I realized it was the heater!!!!! It REALLY must be cold!!! I guess the AC days are gone for awhile! Fall has hit the High Desert....I am not a fan of cold weather!!! 

Volley Ball....

Sept 8

Sable had a home volleyball game today so I went to it. Thursday's the boys are done with football at 4:30 so I found Ty and Ryan along with all the football players that were waiting for the bus at the volleyball game to. We watched until Taylor was finished with cheer practice. Taylor wanted to watch the rest of the last game too so we stayed. I still find it funny that I am at high school events with my youngest kids who are in high school!!!! Just when exactly did this happen?!!! And when did Ty start liking girls?!!!! Man I'm getting old!!!!

Happy Birthday Taylor!

This is the first time we've gone to a birthday dinner for a girl that Ty likes! Lucky for him she likes him back! He knew EXACTLY what she wanted for her birthday! I texted her mom to make sure they hadn't already gotten her it. Her mom had no clue! Hahaha! Ty must really like her!!! He bought her the Wreck This Journal book. Needless to say, she LOVED it!!!

Rainbow In The Desert

We don't get many rainbows out here in the desert so when they do appear it is a beautiful site!!!

Drive In Fun

We decided to go see Hotel Transylvania tonight. Taylor came with us. I miss the longer days of summer but it's nice that the movies can start earlier now!

Taylor discovered how awesome bungee chairs are!!! She loved bouncing in it!

It was just a bit windy....i was freezing by second movie even with my nice warm blanket! Have to remember to bring hoodie from now on so i can have my neck and ears covered until it warms up again.... Pixel was the second movie. We had already seen it but Taylor hadn't so we stayed. It was just as funny second time around!  The stars were beautiful tonight!!! Another fun Saturday night out here in the desert!

Dinner At The Train Tracks

We decided to grab a couple of pizzas and take to the drive in with us.  I left at the same time i've left before to go to the drive in so we wouldn't be too far back in the line. But for some reason tonight there was no line, just us! Ed wanted to have it Marine style and sit out next to the jeep with the pizzas on the hood and just eat grunt style.....we ended up deciding to just drive down the road to the tracks at the Harvey House. Perfect evening to eat pizza along the railroad tracks! Oh, and Ty brought Taylor. Thank goodness she already knows how wacky and impromtu we are!

Ty had just told Taylor to look inside. As she pressed her face against the glass he grabbed her and yelled. He kinda scared her and she smacked him. We all laughed....

Just hanging out at the tracks watching the trains go by....a few went by and each time i got stuck on the letter Q in the alphabet game i play everytime trains go by.

Taylor smiled, Ty said it was impossible to smile while eating pizza! He had to concentrate!

Rodeo Time, Again

It's already rodeo time again! I've noticed everything is just on repeat here....same thing year after year....Last year we FROZE at the rodeo this year we sweated non stop! But still a fun Friday and Saturday evening.

Friday night we had dinner at Peggy Sues before heading to the rodeo. Ty, Ryan, and Taylor are at an away game so we went with Daniel and Jennifer.

There was a beautiful sunset as we headed over to the stables!

The horses were as gorgeous as ever and did a great job!

It was a full moon and Ty was happy to have Taylor there!

Fall Fun On Base

It's that time of year again! Fall Festival on base. I can't believe how fast this year is going! I swear we just did this but it really was a year ago!!! The boys were happy about the yummy dinner tonight. They had just finished football practice and were starving!!! 

Than it was off for trike races, rock walls, lazer maze, hamster balls, trains, and even some jail time!

Ty was finally captured! And threatened with a hair cut!!!!

I guess they never took the name tags off the chairs from The Change of Command!

It was another fun night on MCLB Barstow! 

The Struggles of Living In The Desert

YES!!! The struggle is REAL! VERY REAL OUT HERE IN THE DESERT! Here is just one example....today is Saturday Sept 5th....notice the milk expiration dates...i can either choose tomorrow or yesterday....yes, i have to look at the dates of EVERYTHING in the commissary here because a chunk of time the food has already expired, will expire that day or the following day...i bought milk out in town today....sometimes i think we should be paid extra for living out in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by incompetence....

Time For Shark Week Donuts!

I went to get donuts for Shark Week....the lady at Dunkin Donuts looked at me like I was off my rocker asking about the shark donuts. She continued to make me feel like a lost idiot in the desert as she went on and on about how am the only one watching shark week...blah, blah, blah....and than I guess she realized maybe she should offer to let me order some as I was walking away. Sooooo, I ordered donuts for the next morning to pick up. They were fun.....and a reminder we live in Barstow!
