USA Loses AND Advances!!!

USA ranked what, um 13? played Germany ranked I think #2 today. I took Ryan out for Panda Express to make up for forgetting to bring him home a Sonic burger last night. We watched the last part of the game. USA played really well but still lost, but not as bad of a loss as i thought it was going to be....but amazingly they get to advance!!! Looks like there will be another game! Wow! Go USA!!!

Falcons Football Finished!

Ryan had a fun football season.  He does great on the line and can fill in for any player when they go down injured.  His funnest moment this season was catching the ball from a kick return.  He didn't have really anywhere to go but he atleast ran forward instead of doing what so many other of his team mates do and run backwards!  Usually we loose a good 15 yards on kick returns with his team mates running backwards before getting tackled!  He caught it, paused to look or maybe just surprised the ball was in his arms, and than ran straight forward and actually gained some yards! Here are a few pictures from the season.  The rest are on the School, Sports, & Work 2013-2014 blog.

Last Evening Colors With Youth Sports

As I stood for evening colors and the sound of the bugle began I realized this might be the last practice I'm ever at with my kids where we stop for the lowering of the flag....in just that tiny moment I remembered countless, like literally in the hundreds if not more beginning on Camp Pendleton in the 90's with Jorden and Miramar Air Station in the early 2000's with Jorden. and than with Ty, Victoria, and Ryan on Okinawa to here at New River Air Station.....watching Ed with all the many little ones he's coached gathered around him on the football, soccer, and baseball fields....all the friends I have stood with at practices all over the globe....and yes, I'm not going to lie, a little tear or two might have fallen....

First Weigh In

Ryan had his first weigh in for his first football game of the season. He is still a light weight in this league. One of his team mates didn't weigh enough and another was over, but all the rest were just fine!

Are Those Football Cleats?

They have served her well....
Vicki decided to go out for soccer this year.  She hasn’t played in awhile and she kept going back and forth on if she really wanted to play or not since none of her friends are soccer players.  There was also a lot of misunderstanding on when and where soccer tryouts were going to be and how many teams the school would have.  Two days before the so called try outs at Steeds park there is still absolutely NOTHING on the school website so I decide to shoot off an email to the people that were over the sports program for the High School.  I receive an email back the day before tryouts.  It is not a 5 mile run at Steeds park; the try outs will be at the school, after school.  Yay, don’t have to take a day off of work to get Vicki to her try outs!  Another Yay, they have decided to do a JV team!  The odds of Vicki getting on the team have jumped significantly!  Due to previous experiences with this school I am NOT buying soccer cleats to only possibly be worn a few times, Vicki can wear her old cleats which she is fine with.  Vicki goes to try outs each day and does very well for being out of the soccer loop for the last 4 years!  She switched over to just doing Softball and cheerleading our last couple of years on Oki and then football and swim team here.  On the last day of tryouts the coach hollers at her, “Are those football cleats?”   Vicki, “yes…..”  The coach, “well, that explains why you kick the way you do!  Are you going to get soccer cleats?”  Vicki, “if I make the team….”  Coach, “Go buy SOCCER cleats!!!!”  She came home quite happy!!!
